Getting started with Zenodo for long-term storage

Data repositories

• Deposit data/files to resources that are:

  • Specific: best metadata annotations

  • Widely used: continuity and findability

• Find a repository on re3data.org or fairsharing.org

• If there’s no specific repo, there are general ones, e.g.:

  • figshare

  • Open Science Framework

  • Zenodo

General repositories - file types

• Documents (e.g. pdf/MS Word)

• Images

• Presentations

• Spreadsheets

• File collections, e.g. tarballs

Zenodo

• Initiative of CERN (you know, from the Large Hadron Collider), OpenAire and EU

• Aims for long-term storage

• Assign DOI and make digital objects citable

• Maximum file size: 50 Gb

• Versioning

• GitHub integration

Zenodo - GitHub integration

• Create a record, version and DOI upon release

• Uses CITATION.cff for metadata annotation

• And/or .zenodo.json using the deposit metadata schema, with e.g.:

  • Creators

  • License

  • Title

  • Keywords
